Reading Planning CyclesIn order to support the planning process of our genre instruction, curriculum teams are developing reading cycles. These cycles are springboards for teachers to use as they plan their reading instruction. Its structure is built around Reader's Workshop with the genre TEKS "chunked" within suggested cycles. Please look at the the 5th grade Expository cycle below. These cycles can be found in D2SC. (Please know that these support documents are in development now and will be posted for each reading unit prior to the onset of the 9 weeks.)

STAAR Genre Question StemsHow do we know if the level of questioning and thinking in the classroom is at the rigor of STAAR? How are genres being assessed? The document below is a compliation of released STAAR questions stems by genre for grades 3-6. Victoria Young strongly urges not to focus on grade level but to look at how questions were asked across the genres. Thus the purpose for this resource.

Suggested Genre Resources for the ClassroomAttached is a short list of highly recommended resources for grade levels/classrooms. To support the need for a wide range of authentic genres resources, it is important to make sure that all genres are available. If funding is a roadblock, please consider teacher grants for grade level access. Please contact Karen Foster for more information/support.
